Lavender Sugar Scrub

Taking time for self-care is important, and sometimes you need to find a way to melt the stress away and simply be in the moment. A warm bath with a soothing lavender sugar scrub is a luxurious way to end the day.

It’s also fun when you get to make some of these self-care beauty products yourself. After all, many of the products on store shelves contain harsh or toxic chemicals that can cause skin irritations, disrupt hormones, or increase your risk of developing certain cancers.

Today, I’m bringing you an exquisite lavender sugar scrub recipe made with my Vitamin C cleanser. It’s the perfect way to unwind, pamper your skin, and feel mentally and physically refreshed.

Organic Raw Sugar

When making your own body scrub, you have a few options. White or brown sugars are the most common, but I recommend using only organic raw sugar. One reason for this is because white sugar comes bleached, processed, and refined. Brown sugar is slightly better because it contains molasses and holds a coarser texture. Raw sugar, on the other hand, is minimally processed with only a small amount of molasses. It’s also higher in glycolic acid, which aids cellular turnover and boosts exfoliation.

Vitamin E Skincare

Using Vitamin E in your homemade skincare is an absolute must! This fat-soluble nutrient is an antioxidant that helps fight against DNA damage and oxidative stress. Additionally, it richly replenishes the skin with moisture and protection. It can also help speed up wound healing. Vitamin E can be a bit thick, but it absorbs pretty well. You can get Vitamin E in either soft gel form or buy the oil in a bottle. As always, look for organic brands made in high-quality facilities.

Coconut Oil for Skin

Coconut oil is another amazing oil to use for homemade skincare recipes. Its antibacterial and antimicrobial profile may help soothe inflammation and skin irritations. Coconut oil also contains fatty acids that help it act as an emollient. This means it locks in moisture and keeps skin hydrated for a long time. It can also help improve the skin barrier function. For some people, however, it can clog pores. If you’re acne-prone, consider only using it on your body.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender sugar scrub wouldn’t be the same without lavender oil! Essential oils have been a major part of health, wellness and beauty for generations. Lavender oil is famous for its calming effects and has so many uses! Like coconut and Vitamin E oil, lavender essential oil can also be used in skincare. Not only does it relax the senses, but lavender oil essential oil may help tone the skin, fade the severity of stretch marks, and promote collagen production.

Vitamin C Cleanser

Those who want to look great at any age should always keep Vitamin C on hand. Vitamin C is a very popular skincare ingredient, and for good reason! Topical Vitamin C helps to brighten dull skin, protect against UV damage, and improve skin hydration. My Vitamin C Cleanser combines reishi mushroom extract with rosehip seed oil that gently cleanses and restores that natural, radiant glow.

How to Make Lavender Sugar Scrub

Sugar scrub in glass jar - Lavender sugar scrub - Amy Myers MD®

Making your very own lavender sugar scrub is easy. In fact, you can put it together while you get your shower or bath ready.

Measure out your organic raw sugar and place it in a large bowl. Then, drizzle the vegetable glycerin, coconut oil, and Vitamin E oil over the top. Make it fun! Next, add your drops of lavender essential oil to the mix. Give it a good stir. Finally, add about fifteen pumps of the Vitamin C Cleanser to finish it up. Gently stir until everything is well combined.

It’s that easy! Now, you can sit back and enjoy a refreshing and rejuvenating spa experience right in your very own home. Feel free to use the lavender sugar scrub while in the tub or shower.

Note: There’s really no good way to store this, so discard any remaining scrub you have left over (or better yet, just use it all up!).
